'Coffee Music' is a term that will likely pop up on this quaint 'lil platform often. A good 'Coffee Album' pairs well with quiet Sundays, a fresh coating of dew on the lawn, the silence of hungover neighbours, and a blanket. Coffee Music can be played in the wee-hours of the morning as someone makes you breakfast, or in the early afternoon as someone makes you brunch. In this case, those pairings suit Connan Mockasin's 2018 album, Jassbusters. The wavy guitars, dreamlike vocals and checked-out disposition make Jassbuster's a good example of Coffee Music.
As of publishing this, Blackbyrd has no 'Coffee Music' section; it's not so much a genre designation as a signifier of mood, or spirit. It's not Jazz or Electronic, necessarily. There might be elements of Pop and/or Rock present. The vocalist of an ideal Coffee Album may sing in a classical baritone or rap in double-time. It's hard to say what exactly Coffee Music is, but it's easy to say what it could — and that would be the best thing in your cup, when you wake up. Like Folgers.
In conclusion: I invented the term 'Coffee Music' and you should buy this Connan Mockasin album.
